This painting forms part of MINA's developing Ghana @70, Heritage Scroll Collection, an ongoing body of work exploring Ghana's monuments, cultural memory, living traditions, and national identity through the visual language of archival scrolls.

Inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of Makola Market in Accra, this work captures the movement, energy, and resilience of Ghanaian market life. The scene honours the women whose daily labour, trade, and presence form an essential part of Ghana's social, cultural, and economic heritage.

Presented within an aged scroll format, the painting transforms an everyday market scene into a visual archive of memory and tradition. The warm golden tones, textured parchment surface, market stalls, distant figures, and central female figure carrying goods create a sense of rhythm, continuity, and lived experience.

Makola Market Women 2 celebrates Ghanaian women as carriers of culture, enterprise, family life, and national identity. Through the scroll format, the work preserves the dignity and beauty of everyday heritage while connecting contemporary painting with historical storytelling.
