Chinese Fishing Nets — Kochi, Kerala, 2023

Acrylic on Canvas | 51 × 61 cm

This painting captures the iconic Chinese fishing nets of Fort Kochi at sunset — one of India's most enduring and atmospheric heritage sites. The ancient cantilever nets, silhouetted against a luminous golden sky, rise from the still waters of the Arabian Sea like the rigging of a forgotten fleet.

MINA's expressive brushwork brings the sky alive with sweeping arcs of gold, amber, and soft blue — a sky that seems to breathe. Seabirds drift overhead, a lone fisherman paddles quietly across the foreground, and the warm light dissolves into the reflective surface of the water below. The scene is both timeless and intimate.

Painted during MINA's time living and working in India, this work is part of the Indian Heritage Sites Collection — a body of contemporary acrylic paintings inspired by the landscapes, waterways, gardens, markets, and cultural environments she experienced across Kerala, Mumbai, New Delhi, and beyond.

MINA's style is characterised by expressive colour, soft atmospheric light, and a deep sensitivity to place. Her paintings do not simply document — they remember. Each work carries the mood, the movement, and the quiet poetry of the moment she encountered.
