It later became a centre of colonial administration and, after Ghana’s independence, served as a seat of government and presidential residence until the seat moved to Jubilee House in 2005. Its layered history gives the landmark a continuing role in Ghana’s story of authority, governance and national memory.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSet against the Atlantic coastline, the castle occupies a powerful position between land and sea.
